Shoot Reports 2014

The Field Master Tour Stage 4 Fonmon – 18th of August 2014

Sunday 27th April saw the first shoot of The Welsh Field Masters Tour 2014 take place on our home-ground at Fonmon.

It was a marked animal round, shot on the beautiful southside of the course, which was fully waking up to the spring season and already looking stunning! The forest floor littered with celandines, bluebells, daffodils and wild garlic, and the canopy overhead well on it’s way to coming back towards full summer growth.

Welsh Field Masters Tour Round 1, St David Shoot

Sunday 27th April saw the first shoot of The Welsh Field Masters Tour 2014 take place on our home-ground at Fonmon.

It was a marked animal round, shot on the beautiful southside of the course, which was fully waking up to the spring season and already looking stunning! The forest floor littered with celandines, bluebells, daffodils and wild garlic, and the canopy overhead well on it’s way to coming back towards full summer growth.

Archers were welcomed from Ballands Bowmen, Pentref Bowmen, Red Kite Field Archers, Dinefwr Archers, Zenith Archers, Hawk Archers, North Gwent Bowmen, Margam Archers, and of course Llantwit Major Archers, so attendance was great!

Spring was also in the air with the weather, as the day started bright and dry whilst archers arrived, chatted, registered, used the practice butts and mustered together for briefing, before making their way to their first target.

The forecast had predicted the day would be a mixed bag of sunshine and heavy showers, and that outlook came as promised… with some heavy downpours that added somewhat to the widely reputed challenging nature of our course. The ground became quite sodden and boggy in some places, making footing difficult for shooting as well as moving in between targets. Each time the rain cleared and warm brightness shone through from above, the effect of the natural light on the ground changed, making it a competition for everyone to especially get their teeth into.

All archers rose to it through the humid conditions of course and spirits were not dampened. After all who can resist the fresh glorious smell of rain in the forest and archery mixed together?

An enjoyable day was had with some great results!

Huge thanks go to members of our committee and helpers, for working hard to organise and set up both behind the scenes and out front, and to administrate and host the competition, including Cath, David and Lynda for brilliantly taking care of refreshments for everyone from start to finish. All efforts ensured a great day of archery for all.

The next round of The Field Masters Tour will be FMT 2: Owain Glyndwr Shoot hosted by Red Kite field archers, at Broad Oak, Camarthenshire on the 18th of May. Application forms and information are now available via the WFAA website.
